Customs and temple etiquette

You may address Bhante in any manner. Our standard approach is to clasp our hands together and bow slightly to show respect.  It is not customary to touch or hug a monk or nunn.

When meditating or sitting in the temple room we encourage you to sit comfortably, but ask that the soles of your feet not point to the Buddha statue or Bhante.  If you have physical difficulties sitting on the floor or cushions, feel free to use a chair. Any one will be glad to help set one up for you.

There are cushions provided in our sitting room for your comfort.  Of course, you may bring your own.

We have bottled water and often snacks or fruit are available.  You may bring your own food and drink.

Shoes should not be worn inside the temple.  We usually take them off and leave them within the porch by the sliding-glass door.

Donations are appreciated and not required.

In the hallway is a donation basket next to a box of envelopes.  When you give cash, please use an envelope.  All donations to DWMS are tax deductible.  If you would like a receipt please let someone know.  Make checks payable to either Dhamma Wheel Meditation Society or DWMS.
