“May all beings be well, happy, calm and peaceful.”

Located in Clearwater, Florida, the main objective of the Dhamma Wheel Meditation Society (DWMS) is to make available the 2,500 year old teachings and meditation practices of the Buddha to the west coast of Florida.

Here you will find information about DWMS, our resident monk, Bhante Dhammawansha, some of the etiquette involved with monks and temples, basic information about Buddhism as well as more specific information about our meditation sessions, Pali classes, and special events.  In addition,  please come back to check out our media section that includes a growing collection of photos, MP3 files, vegetarian recipes, and links that will hopefully be useful to your spiritual journey or simply to your curiosity ... EHIPASSIKO!

Above all, know that all are welcome to join us. If you have any questions please feel free to ask any member for assistance. You may also direct inquiries to our contact page.

“In the spiritual realm, India gave us Buddhism, the first major religion to stress tolerance and nonviolence, the only major religion to spread far and wide without conquest, and arguably the major religion whose founding doctrines (unembellished by later additions) most readily survive the modifying force of modern science.”

UPCOMING EVENTS

ON-GOING LECTURE SERIES: “Ten Paramis or Perfections”

Sundays 6:00 - 8:00 PM

We continue this year’s Dhamma series on the 10 paramis (perfections).   These are the 10 qualities that one should strive to cultivate on the path to enlightenment. Every month we begin a new topic with a personal perspective volunteered by one of our members. Our resident monk, Bhante Dhammawansha, then rounds out the discussion with  scripture, anecdotes and stories.

So far this year, we have covered generosity (dana), morality or proper conduct (sila) and renunciation (nekkhamma). We now invite you to join us in the discussion of wisdom (pañña).  Dhamma talks begin Sundays at 6 PM followed by meditation at 7 PM.

Don’t forget to join us for vipassana or insight meditation on Thursdays 7-8 PM.

Library

We have a growing selection of books to satisfy the spiritual curiosity of those seeking very basic information on Buddhism as well as those ready for the challenges of the Abidhamma or the Pali language. At this time, we also have a limited number of cassettes, DVD’s and children’s books.  Most titles are in English, however, we do carry a few in Chinese, Vietnamese, and Sinhala. All books are offered in exchange for “dana” or donations. Feel free to browse before or after meditation sessions.  Either Bhante or one of our members would be more than happy to guide you in your selection.
